There are stages – if you will – of your growth with God. One of the earliest stages is understanding the necessity for God: why is God important in your life? Many times, the answer is as basic as, “so that I can be blessed and happy”. Interestingly, it would seem that God initially doesn’t care about the answer you give yourself – or that others give you. He’s more like, “Okay, whatever you say. :)”.
As you begin to study the Word of God, however, you find out that there’s more to God than just money, sleep, happiness, and good grades. One of the things you become drawn to is Life after death. The idea that after earth, there’s an eternal WONDERFUL world waiting for you… Now that… That is truly something to look forward to and work for.

The Bible also teaches you the habits of God. By and large, there is one rule to understanding God. You must always keep in mind that God is eternally bound to His Word (Isaiah 55:10-13, Matthew 24:35). EVERYTHING that He has ever spoken directly defines who He is. To understand God, therefore, you must know your Bible; not just read it, but study and meditate upon it. You must REALLY pay attention to the fine details between the lines.
There is, however, a point in time when everything seems to be… off. You’ve read your Bible. You know that God’s plans for you are for good – Jeremiah 29:11. Yet, what you’re experiencing is something BIZARRE – to say the least. NONE of the promises of God in the Bible seem to be applying to you! It is like, “AM I TRULY A CHRISTIAN??? Is God angry with me for something? What have I done?! God, PLEEEEAAASSEE, have mercy! ;(”
So now you remember to pray for mercy eh??? All the while, you were chilling in sin! Hehe.
To be frank, though, many times, you’re actually in good terms with God. It’s not anything you did or didn’t do.
From the Bible, I got to realize that God is “Predictably Unpredictable”; Isaiah 55:8-9. He thinks very differently. In other words, you can be sure that God will NOT always work the way you anticipated He would. Your expectations, however, must remain fixed. Though the route may change, the destination will certainly be the same – Isaiah 14:24.
Every so often, God will NOT change your situation because He wants to change your heart and mind-set. (Proverbs 3:11-12, Deuteronomy 8:5).
Understanding this is crucial to your relationship with God. Christianity is NOT going to be a bed of roses. Don’t get me wrong, Christianity is truly a bliss; but how can you grow in Faith without challenges? Isaiah 43:2 and Psalm 23:4 reassure us of the protection of God; have you ever noticed how they also subtly remind us that there will be difficulties we will have to face?
So, when God acts “unusually”, remember, God will ALWAYS be with you wherever you go – Matthew 28:20, Psalm 103:11, Deuteronomy 31:6. You must, therefore, learn to always trust in God, NO MATTER WHAT.

In all things may the most holy, the most just, and the most lovable will of God be done, praised, and exalted above all for ever. Your will be done, O Lord, your will be done. The Lord has given, the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.
