I can’t begin to tell you the amount of Joy this season brings to me each year. Every time Christmas draws nearer, I remember those beautiful days when I was a little 7-year-old boy. We hoped so dearly to be allowed to participate in each and every activity in church. Christmas was a license to be uncontrollably joyous. Till this very day, I hold the same mind-set about Christmas season.
SO DON’T EVEN TRY TO CALM ME DOWN!!!!!!
SO DON’T EVEN TRY TO CALM ME DOWN!!!!!!
Okay. Maybe I'm not as excited as these children. Hehe.
The question, however, is: why am I so excited?
Firstly – the very first that comes to mind, actually – is that schools are on break and I suddenly have unlimited hours to hang out with my friends. Secondly, everyone seems to be extra nice during Christmas season. I don’t know why. I get a lot of dinner invitations, fun outings, cards, gifts, and the likes from my friends and even from people who would naturally not get me JUST ONE LOLLIPOP at any other time of the year. Thirdly, some of the most beautiful songs you can ever hear are sung during this season.
There are many more reasons; probably inexhaustible in number. All these reasons, however, would be very superficial if I fail to mention the birth of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
Now, normally speaking, the birth of a child is a thing of boundless joy. The parents of the baby, other relatives, friends, and well-wishers assemble to celebrate this bundle of happiness that has entered into the world. In Jesus’ case, however, it was different. He was not just celebrated as a babe.
Oh… Hehe… It was WAAAAAYYYYYYY more than that! :D
Earth was wallowing in sin for a good number of millennia. Centuries upon centuries of prophets foretold the coming of a man who would reunited the human race with God (Colossians 1:19-23). This One would be born as a child and would indeed be one with God (Isaiah 7:14; Isaiah 9:6; John 10:30). By no means, however, was he bound to come to earth! He came exclusively out of Love (John 3:16) – a love that no man could ever fully understand.
For what did God have to gain from redeeming us? Formed from the dust, yet man was so absolutely rebellious that he dared to disobey the One on whom his very life depended! What audacity?!
…and Jesus still came.
This season, we don’t just celebrate the holidays. Lolx. No. Far from that, actually.
We celebrate man’s only hope of salvation: Jesus Christ. Thank God He came for us. :)
See you tomorrow. :D
